We selected Horst Custom Homes for our new home.  We began the process with Jacob and worked with Javin throughout the construction.   We couldn't be more pleased with the crews working on the house.   They were professional, polite and the quality of their workmanship was excellent. We are extremely happy with the final outcome however there were several issues along the way.  The process began with a very vague contract and a more or less "gentleman's handshake" agreement.  In hindsight we should have demanded a very detailed contract because there were several items that were discussed and agreed upon initially that became problematic during construction when Javin indicated that they were not in the contract even though they were initially agreed upon verbally.  We were eventually able to work through most of the issues but it did make the project quite stressful at times.   We have been informed by Javin that since our initial contact with Jacob they have worked hard at making changes to their contract and communication.  Just wish it had been done before we signed. We dealt with John Sensenig at Custom Timber Creations LLC in PennYan for our porch beams.  He was extremely helpful in designing the shape of the beams and working with us on the size beams we wanted.   We would highly recommend John for any of your woodworking needs. While we would not hesitate to recommend Horst Custom Homes for your construction process you should definitely insist on an extremely detailed contract.

They are an amazing company with great prices and an awesome crew. They are considerate and very hard working, they worked in fridget cold weather shoveling off our roof  and getting the job done and cleaned up in a very short time. Horst was an outstanding home builder to work with. My wife and I started our home building process with Jacob, who walked us through each step and helped us with any questions or concerns that we had in the initial phases. During the building phase we worked with Javin and his crew. He communicated daily and also doubled checked with us before completing any work to ensure that what was being done was what we wanted. The team at Horst has also continued to answer our question post build and have been back to help troubleshoot a few small issues that came after we had moved in. They are true to their word, their contract, and make sure that you have the best quality home. We will definitely be starting with Horst for any of our future building needs. These guys built me a custom 36x50 pole barn with 16 foot walls and a rear leanto porch in the middle of winter last year. They built it quickly and with really good quality. Johnny and Javin both communicated with me throughout the process. I’ve had some bad experiences with other contractors in the past, but not with these guys.
